for a fantastic Term 1 full of lots of hard work and learning both at school and at home!!!
Thank you parents and caregivers for all the work you do at home to support the learning that goes on in the classroom...reading with your child, helping them with their spelling words and supporting them with Mathletics. This all makes a really big difference - thank you!
The last few weeks of Term 1 have just flown by. Here you can see a few of the learning experiences that have been happening in Room 5 over the past few weeks.
I wish you all a very happy Easter holiday!
Our Writing Goals and "What do good writers do??"
We looked at some pieces of writing by children who had been at school for two years and talked about the things we noticed them doing really well. We then looked at our own writing by ourselves and with a buddy and talked about two things we do well and found one thing to make a wish (a goal) to get better at. Our goals are on the classroom wall along with a piece of writing written by a child after two years at school.
Published Jump Jam Recounts!
We all wrote recounts about doing Jump Jam in the Hall. We were learning to get a picture in the reader's head by using the five senses. We used the laptops to write our title and our name. Mrs Saker typed up our recounts. We then illustrated them. Come into Room 5 to read our big book: "Jump Jam!" Here are a couple of our recounts:

Tens and Ones Maths - Understanding how numbers are written
In Maths we have been learning how many groups of ten we can make from a number and how many ones are left over. Understanding how to do this helps us to write two digit numbers correctly. For example, from the number 12, we can make 1 group of 10 and have 2 ones left over. From the number 20, we can make 2 groups of 10 and have 0 ones left over. Here we are using cubes to make numbers:
Butterfly Art
We have also been lucky enough to have two butterflies hatch in Room 5 so far this Term (and we still have three chrysalis left on our Swan Plant!). We have been busy looking carefully at the butterflies and used paint to make our own beautiful butterflies. Look at what a wonderful job we did:
